Groceries to go

Living on the 7th floor of our building has proved to be quite the challenge when attempting to go grocery shopping. Since you walk everywhere in Florence, you definitely get your work out when bringing your grocery bags home,  up 115 steep stairs.  A friend of ours suggested that we use Esselunga's (thats a grocery chain here) delivery service, so we were on this like white on rice!

The website makes it very easy to order, going section by section, with photos and pricing per unit. Our first attempt took a long time to get completed, but once it was done - we were thankful we did it. Get your italian skills warmed up because this is a great way to learn Italian for the items you use everyday.

A week later a young man delivered 5 ginormous plastic bags full of groceries to our apartment. I felt bad for the delivery guy because the poor thing looked like he was going to have a heart attack.
Delivery was only 6 euro and I tipped him 10.

Obviously we still buy all of our fresh foods from the markets here in town, but you cannot beat the service, lower pricing and comfortability of having 6 months worth of cat litter, laundry detergent and American coffee delivered to your doorstep. Hoorah!

What a great idea. I bet the delivery guy gets his work out for the day :)
