Tower of Arnolfo - Palazzo Vecchio

This weekend, the much anticipated re-opening of the Tower of Arnolfo took place for the city of Florence.  The tower has a rich history in Florence dating back to the Renaissance. This is where Savonarola was held captive & tortured before his hanging & burning in Piazza Signoria. Pretty interesting story about him for all you history buffs!

We climbed to the top of the tower to witness one of the most breathtaking views of the city. I must admit that I think this viewpoint of the Duomo is the best to date. As massive & heavy as she is, she seems to float above the city rooftops. We were also very lucky to have our appointment at the exact moment that the parade for the Calcio Storico was making its way through Piazza Signoria.

What a delightful afternoon spent on top of the city, with a cool breeze, appreciating how beautiful Florence is.

I have seen the city from below and from the limestone hills above Florence, but the views from the tower are breathtaking!

I will have to visit Florence soon again. I am also an expat who lives in Europe. Feel free to visit my new website.
